WIRE WHEEL COVER INSTALLATION INFORMATION

MODELS AFFECTED: 1985 Electra

A change is being made, beginning with production of the 1985 Electra, which affects the retention system of this cover. The cover is retained by the center bolt and bracket with tensioner arms on the bracket (Illustration I). Do not force or use hammer or mallet to install or remove this cover.

It will be necessary to install the tensioner arms (anti-rotational clips) prior to the installation of the wheel cover (Illustration II).

If lock brackets on wheels are gold color, the brackets shipped in the trunk package (silver color) must be installed per instructions (Illustration III). Center stud on silver lock bracket is longer. The gold color lock brackets are to be discarded.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
