INOP ELECTRONIC LEVEL CONTROL INSTALL HEIGHT SENSOR

MODELS AFFECTED: 1985 ELECTRAS

NOTICE: This bulletin supersedes 85-8-4 dated August 1984. Changes have been made in the ELC System Check.

Some early production 1985 Electras may experience an inoperative Electronic Level Control (ELC) system. This condition may be the result of a blown ELC fuse. To correct this condition, use the following procedure:

1. If the vehicle was built before VIN 413239, replace the height sensor with Part No. 22048625. Follow installation and adjustment procedures in Section 3D of the 1985 FWD Electra Service Manual.

2. Replace the fuse and perform the ELC system performance check (see Figure 1).

3. If the fuse blows a second time, replace the compressor (Part No. 22020538)

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
