SERVO SPRING RETAINER P/N REDUCE DAMAGE TO SEAL

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1985 'C' Series Vehicle Equipped With T.H.M. 440-T4 Transmission

To reduce the possibility of damage to the reverse servo seal during assembly, a servo spring retainer has been added. This retainer is identical to the one used for the 1-2 servo spring, and the part number is 8656700. Please make note of this in your 440-T4 service manual on pages 440-T4-26 and 440-T4-67.

Starting January 16, 1984, (Julian date, 016) all 1985 AY, BA AND BS model 440-T4 transmissions were built with a new servo spring retainer (see figure 1). Refer to the chart below for model and Julian date breakpoints.

The Julian date is on the transmission identification tag located on the side of the case by the governor. Refer to figure 2 for decoding of the identification tag.
