A condition may be experienced whereby a buzzing sound may be heard out of the two centre air conditioning dash outlet areas when the system is on high blower speed. This condition can be repaired by carefully prying the two centre outlets from the duct and removing the horizontal vane that can be seen from the back side. An outlet can be removed by pushing the centre of the lower edge of the outlet and prying outward until the two locators are freed. The vane can be removed by bending slightly until it detaches from retaining dowel holes at each end. (See Illustration) Reinstall outlets back into the dash.
Outlets are marked on with an 'L' or 'R' to indicate position in the dash. Care should be taken to reinstall with proper orientation. The horizontal vanes were removed in production on 5-24-84.
Use the most appropriate labour operation from the Labour Time Guide for warranty purposes.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
