BRAKE SQUEAL BRAKE PADS/LINING USAGE

MODELS AFFECTED: 1989 and 1990 ELECTRA/PARK AVENUES AND LESABRES EQUIPPED WITH JM4 AND JL9 BRAKE SYSTEMS

The 1990 Electra/Park Avenues and LeSabres front lining material, edge code DM 342EE, has been pulled ahead on the 1989 Electra/Park Avenues and LeSabres with ABS Brake Systems only. The purpose of the pullahead is to reduce the potential for brake squeal on 1989 vehicles with ABS brake systems.

It is recommended that the 1990 lining, edge code DM 342 EE, not be used to service 1989 and prior year Electra/Park Avenues and LeSabres without ABS Brake Systems; i.e., vehicles with base brake systems. The 1990 lining, DM 342 EE, has a lower coefficient of friction than the current o.e. and service lining Edge Code DM 127 EE, and should only be used to service 1989 vehicles with ABS and 1990 Electra/Park Avenues with both base and ABS brake systems.

Vehicles produced at the following assembly plants PRIOR to VIN numbers equipped with both JM4 and JL9 should use lining 12321422.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
