Some customers may comment on a fluid leak. After inspection, the technician may find that the leak is power steering fluid and appears to be coming from the gear assembly.
This leak may be caused by the cylinder line on the power steering gear assembly contacting the transmission dipstick tube. Over time, this contact may result in a rub-through of the metal line.
Replace the affected power steering gear cylinder line. If the power steering gear was damaged due to the system being run low or dry of fluid, replace the power steering gear assembly. After repair, add a tie strap as shown to prevent contact with the transmission dipstick tube.
