Removal Procedure
- Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
- Loosen the adjuster nut (1) to release cable tension.
- Mark the position of the wheel to the wheel studs in the bearing flange.
- Remove the tire and the wheel. Mark the position of the brake drum to the wheel studs in the bearing flange.
- Remove the brake drum. Refer to Brake Drum Replacement in Drum Brakes..
- Disconnect the parking brake cable from the parking brake lever. Refer to Parking Brake Lever Pedal Assembly Replacement .
- Depress the conduit fitting retaining tangs and remove the conduit fitting from the backing plate.
- Disconnect the cable (1) from the equalizer (2).
- Disconnect the cable (3) from the frame retaining hole (1).
- Disconnect the cable from the rear park brake guide (2).
Installation Procedure
- Connect the cable through the rear park brake guide.
- Install the cable (1) into the retaining hole and snap the cable into place.
- Connect the cable (1) to the equalizer.
- Install the conduit fitting into the backing plate.
- Connect the parking brake cable to the parking brake lever. Refer to Parking Brake Lever Pedal Assembly Replacement .
- Install the brake drum, the tire and the wheel.
- Adjust the parking brake cable. Refer to Park Brake Cable Inspection .
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
Tighten
Tighten wheel nuts to 140 N·m (100 lb ft).
