Removal Procedure
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
.
- Remove the power steering gear heat shield. Refer to
Steering Gear Heat Shield Replacement
.
- Remove the power steering pressure hose from the rack and pinion and hang from the exhaust pipe. Refer to
Power Steering Pressure Pipe/Hose Replacement
.
- Remove the power steering return hose from the rack and pinion and hang from the exhaust pipe. Refer to
Power Steering Return Hose Replacement
.
- Support the transaxle with a transaxle support stand.
- Remove the rear transaxle mount and bracket bolts then position the mount and bracket aside. Refer to
Transmission Rear Mount Bracket Replacement
.
- Position a drain pan under the forward servo cover.
- Using a long screwdriver in order to pry against the vehicle frame. Hold the servo assembly compressed.
- Remove the 3 bolts attaching the servo cover to the transaxle case.
- Remove the long screwdriver. The servo assembly will push the servo cover out. If the servo cover does not push out, tap it with a rubber mallet.
- Remove the forward servo cover O-ring.
- Remove the servo piston assembly.
- Remove the servo spring.
Installation Procedure
- Install the servo spring.
- Install the servo piston assembly.
- Install the forward servo cover O-ring.
- Install the forward servo cover.
- Using a long screwdriver in order to pry against the vehicle frame. Hold the servo assembly compressed.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.
- Install the 3 forward servo cover attaching bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the forward servo cover attaching bolts to 12 Nยทm (106 lb in).
- Remove the drain pan from under the forward servo cover.
- Align the rear transaxle mount and bracket then Install the mount and bracket bolts. Refer to
Transmission Rear Mount Bracket Replacement
.
- Remove the transaxle support stand.
- Install the power steering pressure hose. Refer to
Power Steering Pressure Pipe/Hose Replacement
.
- Install the power steering return hose. Refer to
Power Steering Return Hose Replacement
.
- Install the power steering gear heat shield. Refer to
Steering Gear Heat Shield Replacement
.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Fill the transaxle to the proper level. Refer to
Fluid Capacity Specifications
.
- Inspect the transaxle fluid level. Refer to
Transmission Fluid Check
.
Important: It is recommended that transmission adaptive pressure (TAP) information be reset.
Resetting the TAP values using a scan tool will erase all learned values in all cells. As a result, The ECM, PCM or TCM will
need to relearn TAP values. Transmission performance may be affected as new TAP values are learned.
- Reset the TAP values. Refer to
