CHARGE LIGHT ON WITH ANALOG GAUGE CLUSTER AND HEAVY LOAD

DCS MESSAGE

THE 1991 PARK AVENUE AND ULTRA WITH THE GAUGE PACKAGE HAS TWO CONDITIONS THAT CAN TURN THE CHARGE WARNING LIGHT ON.

AS ON PAST VEHICLES LOW ALTERNATOR OUTPUT CAN CAUSE THE LIGHT TO COME ON. IN ADDITION, THE CLUSTER NOW MONITORS INCOMING VOLTAGE. THE TURN ON POINT FOR THE CLUSTER IS APPROXIMATELY 10.6 VOLTS. IF THE VOLTAGE SHOULD DROP TO THIS POINT, THE CLUSTER WILL INTERNALLY TURN ON THE CHARGE WARNING LIGHT.

IF A VEHICLE HAS THE CHARGE LIGHT ON AT IDLE WITH A HEAVY LOAD, THE ALTERNATOR OUTPUT MUST BE CHECKED. IF THE OUTPUT IS CORRECT, NO REPAIR ATTEMPT SHOULD BE MADE TO THE CHARGING SYSTEM. IT IS ENTIRELY POSSIBLE TO HAVE THE CHARGE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE CHARGING SYSTEM WORKING PROPERLY.

BULLETIN TO FOLLOW WHEN REVISED PARTS BECOME AVAILABLE.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
