Removal Procedure
Tools Required
J 29800 Cut-Off Tool
- Remove the post converter heat shield. Refer to
Converter Heat Shield Replacement
.
- Remove the oxygen sensor. Refer to Engine Controls.
- Support the catalytic converter.
- Cut the exhaust pipes
with the J 29800
.
- Remove the front exhaust
pipe nuts.
- Remove the seal.
- Remove the catalytic converter assembly.
Installation Procedure
- Install the front exhaust
pipe and catalytic converter assembly using a U-bolt type clamp. Position
the clamp so the nuts are toward the drivers side of vehicle.
- Install the seal.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the front
exhaust pipe to the catalytic converter nuts.
Tighten
• | Tighten the nuts to 25 N·m (18 lb ft). |
• | Tighten the clamp to 40 N·m (30 lb ft). |
- Install the oxygen sensor. Refer to Oxygen Sensor Replacement
in Engine Controls.
- Install the post converter heat shield
