GM Service Manual Online
For 1990-2009 cars only

Object Number: 70078 Size: MH

A Tire Performance Criteria (TPC) specification number is molded into the sidewall, following the size indication, on all stock tires. The TPC number assures that the tire meets GM performance standards for the following performance criteria:

    • Traction
    • Endurance
    • Dimensions
    • Noise
    • Handling
    • Rolling resistance

A specific TPC number is normally assigned to each tire size. Ensure that replacement tires are identical to the original tires in the following specifications:

    • Size
    • Load range
    • Speed rating
    • Construction

Ensure that the replacement tires have the same TPC specification number as the original tires. Tires of any other size or construction may seriously affect the following items:

    • Ride
    • Handling
    • Speedometer/odometer calibration
    • Vehicle ground clearance
    • Tire clearance to the body and chassis

The factory spare does not have to be the same TPC specification number as the original tire. Also, a difference in tire treads does not indicate different TPC specification numbers.

Install new tires in pairs on the same axle. If installing only a single new tire, pair the new tire with the tire having the most tread in order to equalize braking traction.
