For 1990-2009 cars only
  1. Raise the front end of the vehicle until the wheels turn freely. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Disconnect the power steering gear outlet hose from the pump reservoir inlet connector.
  3. Plug the inlet connector port on the reservoir.
  4. Place the end of the return line into a large container in order to catch the draining fluid.
  5. Ask an assistant to fill the reservoir using new power steering fluid. Ensure that the fluid is maintained at the FULL COLD mark while flushing the system.
  6. Start the engine. Run the engine at idle speed.
  7. Notice: Do not hold the steering wheel against the stops while flushing the power steering system. Holding the steering wheel against the wheel stops will cause high system pressure, overheating, and damage to the power steering pump and/or gear.

  8. Turn the steering wheel from stop to stop.
  9. Drain and flush the system until all of the old fluid is cleared from the system. Add an additional 0.9 L (1.0 qt) of new fluid in order to flush the system. DO NOT re-use any drained power steering fluid.
  10. When the flushing is complete, stop the engine.
  11. Unplug the reservoir inlet port.
  12. Reconnect the return line.
  13. Fill the reservoir to the FULL COLD mark.
  14. Bleed the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .
