For 1990-2009 cars only

Perform the following inspection from the driver's seat:

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position. Verify that the seat belt reminder lamp operates correctly with the belt buckled and with the belt unbuckled.
  2. Inspect the shoulder belt.
  3. Pull the belt out slowly. Verify that the shoulder belt moves freely in the roller assembly.

  4. Inspect the guide. Verify that the following conditions exist:
  5. • The guide swivels freely
    • The seat belt webbing is seated flatly in the guide slot
    • The webbing does not bind
  6. Verify that the seat belt buckle faces inboard and is accessible.
  7. Verify that the seat belt retractor units are securely attached.
  8. Verify that the seat belt anchor bolts are secure.
  9. Fully extend the seat belt webbing. Verify that the seat belt webbing does not have any twists or tears.
  10. Allow the seat belt webbing to retract. Verify that the webbing returns freely and completely back into the retractor.
  11. Snap the seat belt latch plate into the buckle.
  12. Sharply tug on the seat belt latch plate and the buckle. Verify that the seat belt latch plate and the buckle remain locked when tugged.
  13. Push the button on the buckle.
  14. Verify that the button returns to its original position.

Repeat the inspection procedure (Step 2 through Step 10) from the front passenger seat.

Perform the following inspection on the center belts:

  1. Verify that the center belts are accessible.
  2. Verify that there are no twists or tears in the webbing.
  3. Snap the seat belt latch into the buckle. Push the button on the buckle.
  4. Verify that the following conditions exist:

    • The seat belt latch plate releases easily from the buckle
    • The button returns to its original position

Repeat the inspection procedure (Step 2 through Step 10) from the rear seats.
