- Install the wave washer (1).
- Align the block tooth
on the race and upper shaft assembly (1) to the 12 o'clock position.
Important: If you are installing the original coil, center the coil first. Refer
to
Inflatable Restraint Coil Centering - Off Vehicle
.
- A new inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil will be pre-centered.
Do not pull off the orange tab in the front of the inflatable restraint steering
wheel module coil until installation is complete. Do not depress the service
lock tab on the back of the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil.
- Align the inflatable restraint
steering wheel module coil (2) with the horn tower sticking through
the shaft lock shield assembly (1).
- Install the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil onto
the upper shaft assembly.
If a new inflatable restraint steering
wheel module coil was installed, remove and dispose of the orange tab.
Important: Seat the retaining ring (1) securely on the groove of the race
and the upper shaft assembly (2).
- Install the retaining ring (1).
- Install the black inflatable
restraint steering wheel module coil connector (2) to the fused jumper
assembly connector (1).
Caution: Improper routing of the wire harness assembly may damage the inflatable
restraint steering wheel module coil. This may result in a malfunction of
the coil, which may cause personal injury.
- Install the wire harness assembly (4) into the
wire harness strap (5).
Install the wire harness strap (2)
into the steering column tilt head assembly (1).
Install
the 3 wire harness straps (3) onto the wire harness assembly (4).
- Install the upper and lower trim covers. Refer to
Steering Column Trim Covers - Assemble - Off Vehicle
.
- Enable the inflatable restraint steering wheel module. Refer to
Enabling the SIR System
in SIR.
