DELAY WIPER-ERRATIC TIMING WATER ENTERING WIPER MOTOR

Models Affected: All 1984 Regals With Delay Wipers

A delay wiper may exhibit erratic delay time in the delay mode under certain conditions. This condition exists when water enters the hood area and drips onto the wiper motor entering thru the cover and/or the wiper terminal area.

The symptoms of this occurence can also be the following:

Wiper operation: 1. Wiper may or may not park 2. Washer pump may run continuously 3. Delay time may be erratic

Correction: To correct this condition the following procedure must be followed:

1. Remove cover and dry with air gun

2. Check for correct wiper operation in all modes after drying.

3. Apply duct tape to connector contacting housing, connector and wiring as shown in illustration.

4. Apply RTV sealant to lip of wiper cover as shown in illustration. Make sure RTV sealant goes all the way to the duct tape touching the housing.
