ALTERNATOR WHINE ON FM RADIO INSTALL FILTER PACKAGE

Models Affected: 1984 Regals

Alternator whine or whistle may be encountered on the FM band. This condition can be caused by "noise" entering through the fourteen volt power line. The whine can be corrected by the installation of a fourteen volt line filter package, Part Number 1224205.* The Diagnostic Chart in Section 9 Accessories, should first be used to determine whether or not the noise source is the alternator prior to adding this package.

NOTE: The Service Manager's Guide on Sound Service (1984 edition) published by Delco Radio should be consulted for additional help on radio noise conditions.

* Installation instructions are provided in the kit.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
