Condition

Action

The power steering gear inlet (pressure) hose is grounding out.

Inspect the power steering gear inlet (pressure) hose. Verify that the following conditions exist:

    • The mounting is correct.
    • The clearance is correct.

Refer to the appropriate procedure:

The rack bearing preload is loose.

  1. Tighten the rack bearing preload.
  2. Adjust to specification.

The power steering gear is loose.

Tighten the power steering gear mounting bolts to specification. Refer to Steering Gear Replacement .

The tie rod ends are loose.

  1. Inspect the tie rod ends. Refer to Rack and Pinion Outer Tie Rod End Replacement .
  2. Replace the tie rod ends. Refer to Rack and Pinion Outer Tie Rod End Replacement .

The intermediate steering shaft universal joints are loose.

  1. Service the intermediate steering shaft universal joints. Refer to Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement in Steering Wheel Column-Tilt.
  2. Replace the intermediate shaft universal joints. Refer to Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column-Tilt.
