Problem

Action

There is air in the power steering system.

  1. Inspect the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Inspection
  2. Bleed the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .

The steering column joints are loose or worn.

  1. Inspect the steering column joints for the correct torque.
  2. Replace the steering column joints as needed. Refer to Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column-Tilt.

The power steering gear is loose.

Tighten the power steering gear mounting bolts. Refer to Steering Gear Replacement .

The tie rod ends are loose.

  1. Inspect the tie rod ends. Refer to Rack and Pinion Outer Tie Rod End Replacement .
  2. Replace the tie rod ends as needed. Refer to Rack and Pinion Outer Tie Rod End Replacement .

The wheel bearings are worn.

Inspect the wheel bearings. Refer to Front Wheel Drive Shaft Bearing Replacement .

Replace the wheel bearings. Refer to Front Wheel Drive Shaft Bearing Replacement .

There is excessive play in the steering.
