Problem

Action

The shoe grooves have burrs or dirt.

  1. Clean the shoe grooves.
  2. Inspect the components.
  3. Replace the components as needed. Refer to Steering Column Tilt Head Housing - Disassemble - Off Vehicle or Steering Column Tilt Head Housing - Assemble - Off Vehicle or Steering Shaft, Lower Bearing, and Jacket - Disassemble - Off Vehicle or Steering Shaft, Lower Bearing, and Jacket - Assemble - Off Vehicle .

The shoe lock spring is weak or broken.

  1. Clean the shoe lock spring.
  2. Inspect the components.
  3. Replace the components as needed.Refer to Steering Column Tilt Head Housing - Disassemble - Off Vehicle or Steering Column Tilt Head Housing - Assemble - Off Vehicle or Steering Shaft, Lower Bearing, and Jacket - Disassemble - Off Vehicle or Steering Shaft, Lower Bearing, and Jacket - Assemble - Off Vehicle .

A shoe is seized on the pivot pin.

  1. Clean the pivot pin.
  2. Inspect the pivot pin.
  3. Replace the components as needed.Refer to Steering Column Tilt Head Housing - Disassemble - Off Vehicle or Steering Column Tilt Head Housing - Assemble - Off Vehicle or Steering Shaft, Lower Bearing, and Jacket - Disassemble - Off Vehicle or Steering Shaft, Lower Bearing, and Jacket - Assemble - Off Vehicle .
