Problem

Action

The power steering system has air in it.

  1. Inspect the power steering system.Refer to Power Steering System Test .
  2. Bleed the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .

The steering column universal joints are loose.

  1. Inspect the steering column universal joints.Refer to Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column-Tilt.
  2. Replace the steering column universal joints.Refer to Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column-Tilt.

The rack bearing preload is improperly adjusted.

Tighten the rack bearing preload to specification.

The power steering gear is loose.

  1. Inspect the power steering gear.
  2. Retorque the power steering gear mounting bolts.

The tie rod ends are loose.

  1. Inspect the tie rod ends.
  2. Replace the tie rod ends

Refer to Rack and Pinion Outer Tie Rod End Replacement .

The wheel bearings are worn.

Replace the wheel bearings.Refer to Front Wheel Drive Shaft Bearing Replacement in Front Suspension.
