    • The torque converter clutch is inoperative (circuit 420 pin C of connector 101).
    • Fuel economy is not what it should be, due to lack of TCC (circuit 420 pin C of connector 101).

These symptoms may be intermittent and may be a single or a combination of conditions.

Cause

If normal diagnosis does not lead to a repair of the vehicle, the root cause of the condition may be moisture contamination of connector C101(#2).

The moisture may cause an open, short to ground or short to voltage, causing one or many different symptoms.

Correction

Object Number: 632782 Size: SH
  1. Remove nut holding connector 101 to the front of the left front shock tower. Discard the nut. Open connector C101. Remove the metal bracket from the female portion of connector 101.
  2. Spray clean the terminals within each connector with D.P.L. Moisture Displacing Lubricant, U.S. P/N 1052864, Canadian P/N 10952982. Blow dry the connectors with compressed shop air, while observing all safety procedures which include using safety glasses.
  3. Seal the connector (both the terminal end and the wire end of each connector) with a small amount of Dielectric Lubricant, U.S. P/N 12345579 or 12377900, Canadian P/N 01974984 or 10953529. This is a water sealing lubricant, which will help keep water from getting to the terminals and causing the changes in the resistance values. Care must be used to ensure that the lubricant, the applicator and the connection remain absolutely clean.

  4. Object Number: 636435 Size: MF
  5. Install a new plastic retainer (P/N 12084149) to connector 101 in the appropriate sized slot in the connector, 90 degrees from where the metal retainer was removed.
  6. Reroute the lower connector and wiring in front of the A/C lines. Reconnect the connector and insert the rosebud of the clip in the hole in the shock tower to radiator support brace from the underside.
