Open the rear compartment.

Does the rear compartment courtesy lamp operate properly?

Place the IP dimmer switch in the DOME position.

Do the courtesy lamps operate properly?

Go to Step 4

Go to Courtesy Lamps Inoperative

  1. Disconnect the rear compartment courtesy lamp.
  2. Connect a test lamp between the supply voltage circuit and the rear compartment lamp control circuit of the rear compartment courtesy lamp.

Did the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 11

Connect a test lamp between the supply voltage circuit of the rear compartment courtesy lamp and a good ground.

Did the test lamp illuminate?

Is the vehicle equipped with a rear compartment occupant sensor?

  1. Disconnect the rear compartment occupant sensor.
  2. Connect a test lamp between battery voltage and the trunk ajar switch signal circuit of the rear compartment occupant sensor.

Did the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 8

  1. Connect a fused jumper between the rear compartment lamp control circuit ant the trunk ajar switch signal of the rear compartment occupant sensor.
  2. Connect a test lamp between battery voltage and the rear compartment lamp control circuit of the rear compartment lamp.

Did the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 12

  1. Disconnect the rear compartment lid ajar switch.
  2. Connect a test lamp between battery voltage and the ground circuit of the rear compartment lid ajar switch.

Did the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 10

Connect a fused jumper between the ground circuit and the trunk ajar switch signal circuit of the rear compartment lid ajar switch.

    • For vehicles equipped with occupant sensor, connect a test lamp between battery voltage and the rear compartment lamp control circuit of the rear compartment lamp.
    • For vehicles without occupant sensor, connect a test lamp between battery voltage and the rear compartment lamp control circuit of the rear compartment occupant sensor.

Did the test lamp illuminate?

Inspect for poor connections at the bulb of the rear compartment courtesy lamp. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

    • For vehicle with occupant sensor, repair the high resistance or an open in the trunk ajar switch signal circuit or the rear compartment lamp control circuit . Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
    • For vehicles without occupant sensor, repair the high resistance or an open in the trunk ajar switch signal circuit of the rear compartment ajar switch . Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
