SUBJECT: EXCHANGE PROGRAM - INFORMATION ON DIAGNOSTICS/REPLACEMENT OF DEALER INSTALLED CELLULAR TELEPHONE

MODELS: 1995 BUICK RIVIERA 1995 OLDSMOBILE AURORA

CELLULAR PHONE DIAGNOSTICS/GENERAL NOTES:

THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION INCLUDES THE DEALER INSTALLED CELLULAR TELEPHONE PROGRAM THEORY OF OPERATION, SYMPTOM CHART, AND WIRING DIAGRAM.

THE SYMPTOM CHART SHOULD BE THE STARTING POINT FOR TROUBLESHOOTING THIS SYSTEM (SEE ATTACHMENT). THE WIRING DIAGRAMS ARE THERE FOR YOUR REFERENCE.

WHILE SERVICING THE DEALER INSTALLED CELLULAR TELEPHONE, IT MAY BE NECESSARY TO PLACE A CALL TO TEST THE TELEPHONE'S OPERATION. THESE PHONE CALLS SHOULD BE MADE TO A LOCAL TELEPHONE AND MUST BE BRIEF. THE OWNER SHOULD ALSO BE MADE AWARE THAT THIS MIGHT TAKE PLACE AND THERE MAY BE A SMALL CHARGE ON THEIR TELEPHONE BILL FOR THE TIME THE PHONE WAS USED. THE WAY THE SYSTEM IS SET UP, THE USER OF THE TELEPHONE PAYS FOR THE TIME THE TELEPHONE IS IN USE - WHETHER THE CALL IS AN INCOMING CALL OR AN OUTGOING CALL.

CELLULAR TELEPHONES ARE SIMILAR TO AN FM RADIO IN TERMS OF RECEPTION. THAT MEANS THE CELLULAR TELEPHONE WILL EXHIBIT THE SAME CHARACTERISTICS AS YOUR RADIO. THE DIFFERENCE OCCURS WHEN THE USER TRAVELS INTO AREAS WHERE THE CELLULAR TELEPHONE RECEPTION IS WEAK. THE TRAVELER MAY EXPERIENCE MULTIPATH INTERFERENCE WHILE TRAVELING NEAR THESE FRINGE AREAS. WHEN THE CELLULAR TELEPHONE EXPERIENCES A WEAK ENOUGH SIGNAL, IT WILL DROP THE TELEPHONE CALL. WHEN THIS HAPPENS, THE USER WILL HAVE TO RE-INITIATE THE PHONE CALL. THE PHONE WILL NOT ATTEMPT TO KEEP THE PHONE CALL CONNECTED.

THE PROGRAMMING PROCEDURES FOR THE CELLULAR TELEPHONE CAN BE FOUND IN THE USER'S MANUAL AND THE CELLULAR TELEPHONE ACTIVATION PROCEDURES CAN BE FOUND IN THE DEALER ACTIVATION GUIDE. IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS REGARDING THESE PROCEDURES, PLEASE REFER TO THESE DOCUMENTS.

THE "G" CAR CELLULAR PHONE IS DIFFERENT THAN THE PAST DE CELLULAR PHONE KITS IN THAT IT IS MORE PORTABLE AND HAS LESS EXTERIOR PARTS. THE WIRING IS MORE SIMPLIFIED THAN THOSE OF THE PAST. CHECK WIRING AND COMPONENTS DIAGRAM ON THE ATTACHED PAGE.
