Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 165250 Size: SH
  1. Install the piston ball joint (4) in the control arm (2).
  2. Install three ball joint bolts (3) and nuts (1) as shown on the instruction sheet in the ball joint kit and tighten the ball joint bolts to specification.
  3. Install the ball joint stud through the steering knuckle (5).
  4. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the ball joint nut (6). Do not loosen any nut any time during the installation.
  6. Tighten
Tighten the ball joint to steering knuckle nut to 55-65 N·m (41-48 lb ft) .

  7. Install the cotter pin (7).

  8. Object Number: 171133 Size: SH
  9. Install the nut (2) attaching the stabilizer link to the stabilizer shaft.
  10. Tighten
Tighten the nut to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).

  11. Slightly raise the vehicle. Remove the jack stands from under the suspension.
  12. Install the tire and the wheel assembly. Refer to Wheel Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  13. Check the front wheel alignment. Refer to Wheel Alignment Specifications in Wheel Alignment.
