Causes

Steering Effort Hard in Both Directions

    • The hydraulic system is faulty. Perform the pressure test with the J 5176-D or the J 25323-B . Refer to Power Steering System Test .
    • The rack bearing preload is loose.
    • The steering gear has a bind.
    • The steering gear has a catch.
    • The line or the hose is pinched.
    • The intermediate shaft boot is mispositioned.
    • The intermediate shaft is worn.
    • The intermediate shaft is loose.
    • The belt is loose.
    • The pump pressure is insufficient.
    • A high internal leakage occurs in the gear or in the pump.
    • A high internal leakage occurs in the pump.
    • In cold temperatures, use a cold climate power steering fluid.
