Air Conditioning Compressor Bracket Replacement 2.4L
Removal Procedure
Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing
any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to
the vehicle or its components.
- Disconnect
the negative battery cable.
- Remove the belt. Refer to
Drive Belt Replacement
in Engine Mechanical - 2.4L.
- Remove the generator. Refer to
Generator Replacement
in Engine Electrical.
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
- Remove the compressor
attaching bolts (1,2,3,5).
- Remove the compressor (4). Refer to
Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement

- Remove the bracket.
Installation Procedure
Important: Repairs to the following areas require the loosening of some A/C bracket
bolts:
In order to prevent future torque loss after retightening the bolts,
perform the following steps:
• | Replace the bolt with an appropriate new bolt. |
• | Replace the stud with an appropriate new stud. |
• | Apply Loctite® 242 or the equivalent to the bolt or
stud threads. |
| Follow the package instructions in order to achieve the best retention. |
- Install the bracket.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the following
components:
• | The compressor attaching bolts (1,2,3,5) |
Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).
- Lower the vehicle.
- Install the generator. Refer to
Generator Replacement
in Engine Electrical.
- Install the drive belt. Refer to
Drive Belt Replacement
in Engine Mechanical - 2.4L.
- Connect the negative battery cable.
