During the 1985 model year three different designs of wiper/ defogger switch panels were used on the Buick Somerset. The first design (Figure 1) incorporated wiper 'on' indicator lamps. Design II (Figure 2) remained cosmetically identical to design I except that the wiper 'on' indicator lamp bulbs were removed from the panel. Design III switch panels (Figure 2) contain no provision for indicator lamps.
The rear defogger switch indicator lamp was unaffected by these changes.
If a new wiper/defogger switch panel is ordered from the Parts Department, any one of the three design switches could be received.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
