Removal Procedure

  1. Open the battery isolator.
  2. Open the electrical center cover and push the tab to release the electrical center from the battery.
  3. Remove the harness ground wires from the battery negative cable.
  4. Remove the battery negative cable:
  5. • Loosen the clamp bolt.
    • Use a twisting motion in order to release the cable.
    • Use a universal puller if the cable does not easily release.
  6. Remove the tie straps retaining the battery negative cable to the radiator inlet hose and the engine bracket.
  7. Raise the vehicle on a suitable support. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  9. Remove negative battery cable from the A/C compressor bracket:
  10. • Remove the bolt (2).
    • Remove the cable (1).
  11. Attach a three foot length of mechanic's wire to the end of the battery negative cable.
  12. Lower the vehicle.
  13. Pull the battery negative cable up until the mechanic's wire is visible.
  14. Remove the mechanic's wire from the battery negative cable.
  15. Important: Leave the mechanic's wire in place in the vehicle for the next step so that the battery negative cable can be properly routed behind the thermostat housing extension and the power steering pump.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the mechanic's wire to the battery negative cable.
  2. Raise the vehicle.
  3. Pull the mechanic's wire down until the battery negative cable is visible.
  4. Remove the mechanic's wire from the battery negative cable.

  6. Install the battery negative cable to the A/C compressor bracket:
  7. • Install the cable (1).

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

    • Install the bolt (2).

    Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  8. Lower the vehicle.
  9. Install the tie straps.
  10. Install the battery negative cable to the battery.
  11. Tighten
    Tighten the cable clamp bolt to 13 N·m (115 lb in).

  12. Close the battery isolator.
  13. Reposition the electrical harness.
  14. Reprogram all applicable accessories as required. Refer to Reprogramming Accessories After Battery Disconnect .
