Removal Procedure
- Remove the brake master
cylinder reservoir cover (1).
- Remove the brake fluid
from the brake master cylinder reservoir.
Discard the brake fluid in accordance with local regulations.
- Remove the reservoir from
the master cylinder body.
Use a light upward rocking motion.
- Remove power steering reservoir bracket bolt.
- Remove the power steering reservoir bracket.
Move power steering reservoir towards engine slightly.
- Remove the brake pipes
(1) from the master cylinder.
Plug open pipes to prevent brake fluid from contacting the painted surfaces
and/or becoming contaminated.
- Remove the master cylinder attaching nuts (2).
- Remove the brake master cylinder from the vehicle.
Important: The seal should be replaced.
- Remove the brake master cylinder seal (1) from the brake master cylinder.
Installation Procedure
Notice: When filling the master cylinder, use only Delco Supreme 11, GM P/N 12377967
(Canadian P/N 992667), or equivalent DOT 3 brake
fluid. Do not use a container which has been used for petroleum based fluids,
or a container which is wet with water. Petroleum based fluids will cause
swelling and distortion of rubber parts in the hydraulic brake system, and
water will mix with brake fluid, lowering the boiling point. Keep all fluid
containers capped to prevent contamination.
- Install the brake master cylinder seal (1) to the brake master cylinder.
- Install the brake master cylinder into the mounting position.
- Install the brake master
cylinder attaching nuts (2).
Tighten
Tighten the nut to 22 N·m (16 lb ft).
- Install the brake pipes (1) to the brake master cylinder.
Tighten
Tighten the brake pipes to 16 N·m (12 lb ft).
- Install the power steering reservoir bracket.
- Install the power steering reservoir bracket bolt.
Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 7 N·m (62 lb in).
- Lubricate the reservoir
grommets (1) and the reservoir flanges with brake fluid.
- Install the reservoir to the master cylinder body.
Use a light downward rocking motion.
- Fill the brake fluid reservoir with brake (glycol) fluid, GM P/N 12377967
(DOT 3), or equivalent.
- Install the brake master
cylinder reservoir cover (1).
- Bleed brake hydraulic system. Refer to
Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding
.
