Was the Wiper/Washer System Check performed?

  1. Disconnect the wiper/washer interval switch connector.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
  3. Turn the windshield wiper and windshield washer switch to the INTERVAL position.
  4. Use a DMM in order to measure the voltage between terminal 6 of the interval switch male connector (harness side)and ground.

Does the voltage measure at the specified value?

B+

Go to Step  4

  1. Locate an open or a high resistance in CKT FM99.
  2. Repair the open or the high resistance in CKT FM99.
  3. If CKT FM99 is OK, replace the windshield wiper/washer switch. Refer to Windshield Wiper and Washer Switch Replacement - On Vehicle in Steering.

Is the repair compete?

Go to Step  13

  1. Reconnect the interval switch connector.
  2. Disconnect the windshield wiper motor relay K8 connector.
  3. Use the DMM in order to measure the voltage between terminal 1 of the windshield wiper motor relay K8 connector and ground.

Does the voltage measure at the specified value?

B+

Go to Step  6

Go to Step  5

  1. Locate any of the following in CKT FB1  and/or CKT FB3:
  2. • An open
    • A high resistance
    • A short to ground
  3. Repair the fault in CKT FB1 and/or CKT FB3.
  4. If the CKTs are OK, replace the interval switch. Refer to Windshield Wiper and Washer Switch Replacement - On Vehicle in Steering.

Is the repair complete?

Use the DMM in order to measure the voltage between terminal 8 of the windshield wiper motor relay K8 and ground.

Does the voltage measure at the specified value?

B+

Go to Step  8

  1. Locate an open or a high resistance in CKT FY3 and/or CKT FY1.
  2. Repair the open or high resistance in CKT FY3 and/or CKT FY1.

Is the repair complete?

Go to Step  13

Use the DMM to measure the resistance between terminal 4 of the windshield wiper motor relay K8 and ground.

Does the resistance measure within the specified range?

Less than 2 ohms

Go to Step  9

  1. Reconnect the windshield wiper motor relay K8.
  2. Use the DMM in order to measure voltage by carefully backprobing between terminal 2 of the windshield wiper motor relay K8 connector and ground.
  3. The voltage at terminal 2 should pulse to B+ and then drop to zero volts through a 25 second interval.

Does the voltage measure within the specified range?

B+

Go to Step  12

Go to Step  11

  1. Locate an open or a high resistance in CKT F10.
  2. Repair the open or the high resistance in CKT F10.

Is the repair complete?

Go to Step  13

  1. Locate a short to ground in CKT P2.
  2. Repair the short to ground in CKT P2.
  3. If the CKT is OK, replace the windshield wiper motor relay K8.

Is the repair complete?

--

Go to Step  13

  1. Locate an open or a high resistance in CKT P2.
  2. Repair the open or the high resistance in CKT P2. If CKT P2 is OK, replace the windshield wiper/washer switch. Refer to Windshield Wiper and Washer Switch Replacement - On Vehicle In Steering.

Is the repair complete?

Go to Step  13

  1. Reconnect all of the connectors and the components that were disconnected.
  2. Verify that the windshield wipers operate properly in the INTERVAL mode.

  1. Disconnect the windshield wiper interval switch.
  2. Use a DMM in order to measure the resistance between terminal 4 and terminal 6 of the windshield wiper interval switch female connector.
  3. Measure the resistance through the entire range of the interval switch.

Does the resistance measure within the specified range?

5K ohms - 0.68K ohms

Go to Step 3

  1. Locate a short to B+ in circuit FB1or FB3.
  2. Repair the short to B+ in circuit FB1or FB3.
  3. If the circuits are OK, replace the windshield wiper motor relay K8.

Is the repair complete?

Replace the windshield wiper interval switch. Refer to Windshield Wiper and Washer Switch Replacement - On Vehicle in Steering.

  1. Reconnect any connectors and components that were disconnected.
