Determine if both the front cigarette lighter and the console cigarette lighter are inoperative.

Are both the front cigarette lighter and the console cigarette lighter inoperative?

Is the console cigarette lighter inoperative?

  1. Remove the console cigarette lighter.
  2. Use the DMM to measure the voltage between terminal A of the console cigarette connector C1 and a known good ground.

Is the measured voltage within the specified value?

B+

Go to Step 6

  1. Locate an open or a high resistance in circuit A778.
  2. Repair the open or the high resistance in circuit A778.

Is the repair complete?

Use the DMM to measure the resistance between terminal B of the console cigarette connector C1 and a known good ground.

Is the measured resistance within the specified value?

Less than 5 ohms

Go to Step 8

  1. Locate an open or a high resistance in circuit F23.
  2. Repair the open or the high resistance in circuit F23.

Is the repair complete?

Replace the console cigarette lighter. Refer to Cigar Lighter Housing Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console.

Is the replacement complete?

  1. Remove the front cigarette lighter.
  2. Use the DMM to measure the voltage between terminal 1 of the front cigarette connector and a known good ground.

Is the measured voltage within the specified value?

B+

  1. Locate an open or a high resistance in circuit A777.
  2. Repair the open or the high resistance in circuit A777.

Is the repair complete?

Use the DMM to measure the resistance between terminal 3 of the front cigarette connector and a known good ground.

Is the measured resistance within the specified value?

Less than 5 ohms

  2. Repair the open or the high resistance in circuit F4.

  2. Repair the short to ground in circuit A800, A778 or A777.

  1. Connect all connectors and components that were disconnected.
