Did you perform the IPC diagnostic system check?

  1. Disconnect engine control module (ECM) connector C2.
  2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  3. Connect a 3 amp fused jumper between the ECM fuel cap control circuit at the ECM connector C2 and a good ground.

Is the FUEL CAP lamp illuminated?

Inspect for poor connections at ECM connector C2 terminal 33. Refer to Intermittents and Poor Connections Diagnosis and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Test the control circuit of the fuel cap indicator for an open. Refer to Testing for Short to Ground and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the ECM. Refer to Engine Control Module Replacement/Programming .
