Removal Procedure
Tools Required
J 38778 Door Trim
Pad and Garnish Clip Remover
- Open the doors.
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
- Remove one screw from the front of the rocker panel molding.
- Using J 38778
,
remove the lower rocker molding retainers from the rocker panel molding.
- Slide the rocker molding forward in order to release the molding
from the rear rocker corner molding.
- Use a small flat-bladed tool in order to carefully unsnap the
rocker molding from the retainers.
- Remove the rocker molding.
- Remove the rocker molding retainer from the weld stud. If a weld
stud becomes damaged during the removal procedure, refer to
Weld Stud Replacement
.
Installation Procedure
- Install the rocker molding
by sliding the rocker molding into the corner rocker molding.
- Snap the rocker molding onto the retainers and lock into place.
- Install the rocker molding lower retainers.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the front
rocker molding screw.
Tighten
Tighten the front rocker molding screw until fully seated but not stripped.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Close the doors.
