Removal Procedure
Tools Required
- Remove the transmission. Refer to
Transmission Replacement
in Automatic Transmission.
- Counterhold the crankshaft
with J 42098
and remove
the flywheel bolts.
- Remove the flywheel from the crankshaft.
- Clean the rear crankshaft flange.
Installation Procedure
- Install the flywheel to
the crankshaft.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
Important:
• | Use new flywheel bolts. |
• | Coat the new flywheel bolts with thread retaining compound, GM P/N 12345493
or equivalent. |
- Install the flywheel bolts.
Tighten
• | Counterhold the crankshaft with J 42098
. |
• | Use the J 36660-A
to
tighten the flywheel bolts to 65 N·m (48 lb ft)
on the first pass, 30 degrees on the second pass and 15 degrees
on the third pass. |
- Install the transmission. Refer to
Transmission Replacement
in Automatic Transmission.
