Circuit Description

The calibrations for the instrument cluster are stored in EEPROM. When the ignition is first turned ON, the instrument cluster performs internal tests on the EEPROM and can determine the integrity of the EEPROM's non - volatile memory. A DTC 52 indicates that the EEPROM is partially programmed.

Test Description

The numbers below refer to the step numbers on the diagnostic table.

  1. This step reprograms the instrument cluster using the scan tool.

    2.

  2. If the programming procedure failed, test the power and ground circuits to the cluster. Replace the cluster if the power and ground circuits are good and you are still unable to program the cluster after numerous attempts.

  1. Install the scan tool.
  2. Select PROGRAMMING from the SPECIAL FUNCTIONS menu.
  3. Follow the programming instructions on the display screen.

Was the programming successful?

Go to Diagnostic System Check - Instrument Cluster

Go to Step 3

  1. Test the power and ground circuits to the instrument cluster. Repair as needed.
  2. If OK, replace the instrument cluster. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement .
  3. Install the scan tool.
  4. Select PROGRAMMING from the SPECIAL FUNCTIONS menu.
  5. Follow the programming instructions on the display screen.

Is the replacement complete?

Go to Step 4

  1. Install the scan tool.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
  3. Test for DTCs (current and history).
  4. If any current DTCs are present, repair as needed.
  5. If any history DTCs are present, clear the codes.

Did all DTCs clear from memory?
