The calibrations for the instrument cluster are stored in EEPROM. When the ignition is first turned ON, the instrument cluster performs internal tests on the EEPROM and can determine the integrity of the EEPROM's non - volatile memory. A DTC 52 indicates that the EEPROM is partially programmed.

This step reprograms the instrument cluster using the scan tool.
If the programming procedure failed, test the power and ground circuits to the cluster. Replace the cluster if the power and ground circuits are good and you are still unable to program the cluster after numerous attempts.
