DEFINITION: This table is used to diagnose no sound from one or both rear sub-woofer speakers on a BOSE® audio system.

Did you perform the Radio/Audio System Diagnostic System Check?

  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Turn ON the radio.
  3. Measure the voltage at the inoperative sub-woofer speaker terminal 1 and then at terminal 2.

Does the voltage measure within the specified value?

5.5-6.5 V

  1. Turn OFF the radio.
  2. Turn OFF the ignition.
  3. Lower the amplifier bracket to gain access to the amplifier connector.
  4. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  5. Turn ON the radio.
  6. At the amplifier connector, measure the voltage at the inoperative sub-woofer speaker (+) output terminal.
  7. Measure the voltage at the inoperative speaker (-) output terminal.

Does the voltage measure within the specified value?

5.5-6.5 V

Test the inoperative speaker circuit for an open. Refer to Testing for Continuity in Wiring Systems.

  1. Disconnect the amplifier connector.
  2. Disconnect both rear sub-woofer speaker connectors.
  3. Test all 4 speaker circuits, to the rear sub-woofers, for a short to voltage condition. Refer to Testing for a Short to Voltage in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Verify that all speakers operate properly.

Do all speakers operate properly?

Go to Step 2

  1. Inspect for poor connections at speaker. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems.
  2. Repair as necessary.
  3. If no poor connection was found, replace the speaker.

Test the speaker circuits, to the inoperative speaker, for a short to ground. Refer to Testing for Short to Ground in Wiring Systems.
