Removal Procedure

Caution: To help avoid personal injury when a vehicle is on a hoist, provide additional support for the vehicle at the opposite end from which components are being removed. This will reduce the possibility of the vehicle falling off the hoist.

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Remove the inner tie rod bolt from the rear axle cradle.
  3. Remove the inner tie rod from the rear axle cradle.
  4. Loosen the rear tie rod adjuster nut to allow for inner tie rod removal.
  5. Important: Count the turns required for removal of the tie rod for re-assembly purposes.

  6. Remove the inner tie rod from the adjuster.

Installation Procedure

Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  1. Thread the inner tie rod to the adjuster the same number of turns as was required for the removal.
  2. Tighten
Tighten the rear tie rod adjuster nut to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).

  3. Install the inner tie rod to the rear axle body.
  4. Install the inner tie rod bolt to the rear axle body.
  5. Tighten
Tighten the inner tie rod bolt to 90 N·m (66 lb ft).

  6. Lower the vehicle.
  7. Adjust the rear toe to specification. Refer to Rear Toe Adjustment in Wheel Alignment.
