Did you perform the Radio/Audio System Diagnostic System Check?

  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Turn ON the radio.
  3. Operate all of the steering wheel control (SWC) switches.

Do all of the steering wheel control switches operate properly?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step  3

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disable the SIR. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in SIR.
  3. Disconnect the SWC connector.
  4. Measure the resistance from the steering wheel switch input circuit of the SWC and the ground circuit of the SWC.
  5. Press the following SWC switches and record the resistance values:
  6. • Volumn Up
    • Volumn Down
    • Mode
    • Select Up
    • Select Down
    • Scan

Do the recorded resistance readings measure near the specified values?

164 ohms

82 ohms

284 ohms

464 ohms

794 ohms

1474 ohms

Test the ground circuit between the SWC and the radio for an open or high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the SWC. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the steering wheel switch input circuit between the SWC and the radio for an open or short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the SWC switch.
