Air Cleaner Element

1. Remove the IAT sensor connector.



2. Loosen the intake air duct clamp (5) at the Mass Air Flow Sensor (4) end of the duct.
3. Disconnect the clean air duct from the Mass Air Flow Sensor.
4. Disengage both air cleaner (3) cover latches.

4.1.	One latch is located at the rear corner of the inboard edge of the cover.

4.2.	The other is located at the outboard corner of the rear edge of the cover.

5. Pivot the air cleaner and clean air duct assembly toward the front of the vehicle.
6. Remove the assembly.
7. Inspect air filter element.
8. Remove any loose debris that may be found laying in the base of the air cleaner.

1. Install a new air filter element.
2. Engage the front edge of the air cleaner lid into the slots in the front edge of the air cleaner base.

Important: The outlet of the air cleaner assembly and the MAF sensor inlet duct must be lined up when completely installed. Misalignment may cause incorrect air flow readings resulting in MIL illumination or a driveabilty concern.

3. Pivot air cleaner cover and duct assembly down until the two latches in the cover engage in the air cleaner base.
4. Inspect to be sure that both latches latch.



5. Install the intake air duct (1) over the MAF Sensor (4), being careful to ensure that the intake air duct is secure around the entire outer edge of the Mass Air Flow Sensor.

Tighten
Tighten the clamp (5) assembly to 3.5 N·m (31 lb in).




6. Connect the IAT sensor connector to the IAT sensor.

Air Cleaner Assembly

1. Remove the intake air duct (1) clamp (5) from the MAF sensor (4).



2. Lift the air cleaner element assembly (1) off of the air inlet assembly (2) locating pins.
3. Slide the air cleaner element assembly (1) toward the fender to unseat the locating tab of the air cleaner element assembly (1) from the slot of the air inlet assembly (2).



4. Remove or disconnect the Intake Air Temperature sensor.
5. Remove the air cleaner element.
6. Remove the air cleaner element assembly.

1. Install the air cleaner element.
2. Ensure the rubber locating grommets are secure in the bottom of the air cleaner element assembly (1).
3. Slide locating tab on bottom of the air cleaner element assembly (1) down into the slot on the top of air inlet assembly (2).
4. Press the air cleaner element assembly (1) down onto the locating pins ensuring the locating grommets are secure in the bottom of the air cleaner element assembly (1).



5. Install or connect the Intake Air Temperature sensor.



6. Install the intake air duct (1) to the MAF sensor (4).

Tighten
Tighten the clamp (5) assembly to 3.5 N·m (31 lb in).

Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
