The Speaker Pops When Starting The Vehicle

Subject:The Speakers Pop When Starting The Vehicle

Models:2006- 2007 Cadillac DTS w/ RPO UQ3

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

A customer may comment that all of the speaker's pop or thud when the ignition is switched to crank position. The concern may be intermittent but when present there should be a clear connection between going to the ignition crank position and the speaker pop.

Notice: If the speaker pop occurs at other times, reference PIC4674.

The cause may be a momentary drop in system voltage when the starter engages contributing to a scenario in which the amplifier is not fully muting before the radio shuts down. The vehicle is designed to mute the amplifier and turn the radio off when starting the vehicle. If the amplifier is not fully muted when the radio shuts down, an amplified pop is created as the low level audio signals from the radio turn off.

Recommendation/Instructions:

Test the vehicle's battery. Follow Diagnostic Information and Procedures- Battery Inspection/Test and repair any discrepancies found.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
