INTERMITTENT ABS CODE 71 INST. ALDL TERMINAL COVER KIT

SUBJECT: INTERMITTENT ABS CODE 71

MODELS AFFECTED: 1991-1993 DE VILLES AND FLEETWOODS

This bulletin is being revised to include ABS code 71 fix information and supersedes Service bulletin T-92-104 which should be discarded.

Some 1992-1993 DeVilles and Fleetwoods equipped with traction control may experience intermittent ABS diagnostic trouble code 71 due to a software timing glitch in the EBCM. This code will be displayed as a code 62 when using the 1991 or 1992 Version 1 Tech 1 cartridge and as code 71 when using the 1992 Version 2 or 1993 mass storage Tech 1 cartridge.

When working on a vehicle with a code 71, install ALDL terminal shorting cover kit, P/N 25616620. The push pin included in the kit will not be used.

Procedure:

1. Remove the screw holding the ALDL connector in place.

2. Insert the screw through the eyelet on the ALDL cover retaining strap and then insert the screw in the location where it was removed.

3. Clear any ABS/TCS codes.

4. Install the ALDL cover in the ALDL connector.

NOTE: The ALDL cover was installed at the assembly plant on early 1993 model vehicles. A new ABS/TCS controller (P/N 25615670) is now in production and does not need the ALDL cover. The new controller was installed on vehicles built after VIN 209791.

Use P/N 25616620 ALDL cover kit which is currently available from GMSPO.

For warranty purposes use Labor Operation T5 314 at .2 hour.
