This bulletin is being revised to include the 1993 model year.
Some 1992-1993 Eldorado, Sevilles, Allantes, Toronados, and Rivieras built before VIN breakpoint 601454 for Eldorados, 803333 for Sevilles, 300762 for Toronados, and 401224 for Rivieras may require additional brake pedal travel to activate the brake lights and/or disengage cruise control.
This condition can usually be repaired by adjusting the stop lamp switch. The switch is adjusted by manually pulling up on the brake pedal while holding the brake switch mounting bracket with a pair of pliers until the clicking noise from the stop lamp switch can no longer be heard. The adjustment may require more force than in previous model years.
If the switch will not click during adjustment and the brake lights still appear to come on late, replace the stop lamp switch with P/N 3537074 for Eldorados and Sevilles (and Rivieras and Toronados) and P/N 3537077 for Allantes.
Replace the switch using the following procedure:
1. Remove left side hush panel. 2. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the switch. 3. Remove the switch from the retainer. 4. Install the new switch into the retainer. 5. Connect the electrical connector. 6. Adjust the switch by pulling back on the brake pedal until no clicks are heard. 7. Verify the operation of the brake lights and cruise control.
For vehicles repaired under warranty use:

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
