The electronic brake and traction control module (EBTCM) controls a bi-directional magnetic rotary actuator. The actuator is located in the steering gear. The EBTCM varies the steering assist by adjusting the current flow through CKT 1787 (GRY) and CKT 345 (WHT). The amount of steering assist is dependent upon vehicle speed. As the vehicle speed increases, the steering assist decreases and the driver effort increases. As the vehicle speed decreases, the steering assist increases and the driver effort decreases.

If an open or short is present in CKT 1787 (GRY) or CKT 345 (WHT), the EBTCM will set DTC C1241 Magnasteer Malfunction. If DTC C1241 is current, the Magna Steer® cannot be controlled by a scan tool. The Magna Steer® system has only one response mode. The Magna Steer® steering response mode may be recalibrated using a Scan Tool . Refer to Variable Effort Steering Programming .
