Removal Procedure

Tools Required

J 39500-B A/C Refrigerant Recovery, Recycling and Recharging (ACR4) System

  1. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  2. Remove the accessory drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement in Engine Mechanical - 4.0L, 4.6L.
  3. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  5. Remove the compressor splash shield (2) and the retainers (1).
  6. Remove the right wheel house extension. Refer to Wheelhouse Extension Replacement in Body Front End.
  7. Remove the engine oil filter.
  8. Remove the oil cooler lines at the oil filter adapter (if applicable).
  9. Remove the upper bolt from the oil filter adapter.
  10. Disconnect the compressor electrical connection.

  12. Remove the bolt that secures the compressor hose assembly (1).

  14. Remove the compressor mounting bolts.
  15. Remove the compressor.

  16. Object Number: 304929  Size: SH
  17. Remove the mounting bracket from the compressor.

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 304929  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  1. Install the rear compressor mounting bracket to the compressor.
  2. Tighten
    Tighten the rear bracket bolts to 24 N·m (18 lb ft).

  3. Install the compressor to the vehicle.
  4. Tighten

        • Tighten the rear mounting bolts to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).
        • Tighten the front mounting bolts to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  5. Install the compressor hose assembly (1).
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the compressor hose bolt to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).

  7. Connect the compressor electrical connection.
  8. Install the upper bolt for the oil filter adapter.
  9. Install the oil cooler lines at the oil filter adapter (if applicable).
  10. Install the engine oil filter.

  13. Install the right wheel house extension. Refer to Wheelhouse Extension Replacement in Body Front End.
  14. Lower the vehicle.
  15. Install the accessory drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement in Engine Mechanical - 4.0L, 4.6L.
  16. Recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  17. Leak test the A/C system. Refer to Leak Testing .
