Removal Procedure

J 39500-B A/C Refrigerant Recovery, Recycling and Recharging (ACR4) System

    Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  3. Lower the engine and transmission assembly. Refer to Engine Replacement in Engine Mechanical - 4.0L, 4.6L.

  5. Disconnect the accumulator tube (1) from the evaporator core.
  6. Disconnect the evaporator tube (2) from the evaporator core.

  8. Remove the blower motor.

  10. Remove the evaporator core rubber barrier cover.
  11. Remove the evaporator core cover.

  13. Remove the evaporator core.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the evaporator core.

  2. Object Number: 381378  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the evaporator core cover.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the screws to 5 N·m (44 lb ft).

  5. Install the evaporator core rubber barrier cover.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the screws to 5 N·m (44 lb ft).

  7. Connect the evaporator tube (2) to the evaporator core.
  8. Connect the accumulator tube (1) to the evaporator core.
  9. Install the engine and transmission assembly. Refer to Engine Replacement in Engine Mechanical - 4.0L, 4.6L.
  10. Recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  11. Leak test the A/C system. Refer to Leak Testing .
