Retained accessory power (RAP) is a standard feature. RAP is designed to allow the following components to be operated after the ignition switch is turned to the OFF position:

    • The radio
    • The rear compartment lid release
    • The fuel door release
    • The power windows
    • The cellular phone (if equipped)
    • The sunroof (if equipped)

RAP continues until 10 minutes have elapsed or a door is opened.

The RAP system is composed of the following main components:

    • The body control module (PZM)
    • The controlled power relay
    • The accessory time delay relay
    • Several fuses -- Refer to Retained Accessory Power (RAP) Schematics

When the ignition switch is cycled to the RUN position, the PZM energizes the controlled power relay and the accessory time delay relay. This action supplies power to the following components:

    • The radio
    • The cellular phone (if equipped)
    • The rear compartment lid release
    • The fuel door release
    • The power windows
    • The sunroof (if equipped)

The controlled power backup relay is wired in series with the controlled power relay. This design allows the circuits (powered by the controlled power relay and the accessory time delay relay) to operate if the RAP system malfunctions.

When the ignition switch is cycled to the OFF position, the PZM starts a timer and continues to power the accessory circuits through the controlled power relay and the accessory time delay relay. After 10 minutes, the PZM will de-energize the relays. This action turns off the power to the accessory circuits. If a door is opened, the PZM will immediately energize the relays.
