Door Window Adjustment DeVille

Caution: This vehicle is equipped with a Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) System. Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause the following conditions:

   • Air bag deployment
   • Personal injury
   • Unnecessary SIR system repairs
In order to avoid the above conditions, observe the following guidelines:
   • Refer to SIR Component Views in order to determine if you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring.
   • If you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System.

Caution: In order to prevent SIR deployment, personal injury, or unnecessary SIR system repairs, do not strike the door or the door pillar in the area of the side impact sensor (SIS). Turn OFF the ignition and remove the key when performing service in the area of the SIS.

Adjust the door window if the following conditions exist:

    • Any beveled edge of the window is visible with the window in the full up position
    • Adjust the up/down positioning of the window at the inner panel cam.
    • Adjust the fore/aft positioning of the window at the window sash under the following conditions:
       - The window does not fit the window frame.
       - An up/down adjustment was performed.
    • Adjust the fore/aft positioning of the lower run channels under the following conditions:
       - The window rattles in the full down position.
       - Other window adjustments were performed.

Always complete the adjustment procedure in the following sequence, regardless of the reasons for window adjustment.

Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  12. Tighten the inner panel cam bolts (1).
  13. Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 11 N·m (97 lb in).

  14. Raise the window to the full up position in order to verify proper up/down adjustment.
  15. Inspect the fore/aft adjustment of the window to the window frame.
  16. Loosen the adjustment bolt (7) on the window sash (8) through the access hole in the door inner panel.
  17. Position the window fore/aft in the window frame as needed.
  18. Tighten the bolt (7).
  19. Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 11 N·m (97 lb in).

  20. Cycle the window several times in order to verify the following conditions:
  21. • Proper up/down adjustment
    • Proper full up fore/aft adjustment
  22. Lower the window to the full down position. Verify that the window rests inside of the following components:
  23. • The front lower run channel (5)
    • The rear lower run channel (3)
  24. Loosen the lower run channel adjustment bolt(s).
  25. Fit the run channel(s) against the window.
  26. Tighten the bolts.
  27. Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 11 N·m (97 lb in).

  28. Cycle the window in order to ensure that no binding occurs.
  29. Install the water deflector. Refer to Door Water Deflector Replacement .
  30. Enable the SIR system. Refer to Enabling the SIR System .
  31. Install the door trim panel. Refer to one of the following procedures:
  32. •  Front Side Door Trim Panel Replacement
    •  Rear Side Door Trim Panel Replacement

Parallelism Adjustment Procedure

    Object Number: 319973 Size: MH
  1. Inspect the window parallelism adjustment.
  2. Perform the following steps:

1.1. Raise the window approximately 13 mm (0.5 in) below the full up position.
1.2. Inspect for parallelism on the upstroke of window motion.
1.3. Ensure that the gap from the horizontal edge (1) of the window to the weather strip is even at the following locations:
       • The front of the window
       • The rear of the window

    Object Number: 443068 Size: SH
  3. Perform the following steps to the inner cam bolts (2) in order to adjust the parallelism:
  4. 2.1. Loosen the bolts (1) on the door module (2).
    2.2. Reposition the bolts (1).

Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application.

  5. Tighten the inner cam bolts.
  6. Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 11 N·m (97 lb in).

Window Fore and Aft Adjustment Procedure

  1. Place the window in the up position.
  2. Close the door.
  3. Measure the space between the window and the B-pillar weather-strip retainer.
  4. Important: Moving the window too far causes the following conditions to occur:

       • Increased door closing effort.
       • Reduced window seal contact at the B-pillar.
       •

  5. If the space is not within specification, perform the following procedures:
  6. Ensure that the space is 6-7 mm (0.25 in).
  7. 5.1. Loosen the regulator to window sash channel (1) bolts.
    5.2. Reposition the window.
    5.3. Inspect the adjustment.

Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application.

  8. Snug the sash channel bolts.
  9. Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 11 N·m (97 lb in).

Window Upstop Adjustment

Object Number: 319984 Size: SH

Important: The window upstop adjusters (3) are color coded in the following manner:

   • The front upstop adjuster is a neutral color.
   • The rear adjuster is black.
The adjuster has a 6 mm (0.23 in) head. One full turn is equal to 1 mm (0.04 in) movement of the glass.

While facing the door inner panel, the following conditions may be observed:

   • A clockwise rotation moves the window up.
   • A counterclockwise rotation moves the window down.
Slightly lower the window in order to relieve pressure before moving the adjusters.

Removal Procedure

    Object Number: 319988 Size: MH
  1. Remove the roof rail weather-strip.
  2. Insert a 2.6 cm (1 in) wide roll of masking tape (2) in the weather-strip retainer assembly (3).
  3. Place the window in the full up position.
  4. Close the door.
  5. Measure the gap between the edge of the weather-strip retainer assembly (3) and the top edge of the window.
  6. Ensure that the gap is 3 mm (0.125 in).

  7. If the gap is not within specifications, perform the following steps:
  8. 6.1. Determine the necessary amount of movement for the assembly.
6.2. Adjust the upstops as needed.
