The engine frame is mounted to the body with thick rubber insulators. These insulators are specifically designed for each location in order to give the proper amount of structure strength while, at the same time, providing maximum road noise isolation. The engine frame insulators consist of the following components:

    • An upper spacer
    • An upper insulator
    • A lower insulator
    • A lower retainer
    • A through bolt

The insulator is protected by a plastic cover. The plastic cover is fastened to the engine frame. Improper frame insulator installations may result in the following conditions:

    • Structure shake
    • Road noise
    • Squeaks
    • Snapping noise on braking and accelerating

The above conditions may sometimes be caused by the wrong component being installed or the insulator not being properly tightened. Squeaks may be caused by an improperly located insulator rubbing on the frame rail. If a conditions has been diagnosed as an insulator problem, ensure that the proper insulator was installed, and inspect body bolt torque.
