Circuit Description

DTC B1557 indicates that the option bit portion of the instrument cluster EEPROM has an unrecoverable error. The option bit portion of the instrument cluster EEPROM stores the manufacturing information.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

DTC B1557 sets when the instrument cluster detects an error in the option bit portion of the EEPROM during a diagnostic system self-test.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

When DTC B1557 sets, the following actions may occur:

    • The instrument cluster display does not operate.
    • The instrument cluster illuminates the SERVICE VEHICLE SOON indicator.

Diagnostic Aids

    • The IPC uses default calibrations.
    • The OPTIONS NOT SET message is displayed on the driver message center.
    • The manufacturing data and the vehicle identification number are changed to zero.
    • The override display information is set as follows:
        1. Option Byte A:
       - Universal Theft Deterent enable OFF
       - Memory/Personalization present OFF
        2. Option Byte B:
       - European Economic Community Mode OFF
       - Japanese Mode OFF
       - Saudi Arabian Mode OFF
       - Canadian Mode OFF
       - Norway/Sweden Mode OFF
        3. Option Byte C:
       - Premium Unleaded Fuel Display disable OFF
       - Cellular Telephone present OFF
       - Brake to Shift Interlock Message suppression OFF
       - Options Not Set Message suppression ON
       - Low Fuel Level Message suppression OFF
       - RSS present OFF
        4. Option Byte D:
       - Afterblow Option OFF
       - Dual Zone present OFF
        5. Option Byte E:
       - Coolant Temp message suppression OFF
       - Battery Volts message suppression OFF
       - Engine RPM message suppression OFF
       - AVG MPH message suppression OFF
       - MPH message suppression OFF
       - Fuel Used message suppression OFF
       - INST MPG message suppression OFF
