When a key is inserted into the ignition switch, the terminals located in the steering column lock cylinder contact the resistor pellet in the ignition key. The IPC measures the resistance of the key pellet and then measures the resistance to the one stored in the IPCs memory.
A malfunction occurs in the communication between the IPC and PCM. Inspect for other loss of serial data communication DTCs if this occurs.
The IPC displays the THEFT SYSTEM PROBLEM, CAR MAY NOT RESTART message on the driver message center.
• | If U1016 is also set, diagnose U1016 first. |
• | If PCM DTC P1604 is also set, diagnose PCM DTC P1604 first. |
• | This condition may be caused by a password mismatch between the IPC and the PCM. Both this DTC and PCM DTC 1631 will be set in this case. Refer to IPC Programming Following Replacement in this section and perform the procedure. |
